Port Stephens Kumdo

Kumdo is a disciplined and elegant martial art rooted in the ancient traditions of Korean sword combat. At Him-Do Tae Kwon Do Academy in Port Stephens, our Kumdo classes are open to students aged 12 and above and focus on both physical mastery and mental resilience.

Through structured training in balance, footwork, blade control and striking accuracy, students gain practical sword skills while developing strength and coordination. Kumdo is not just about technique—it promotes calmness under pressure, precision in movement and clarity of thought.

Whether you're completely new to martial arts or looking to expand your skill set, Kumdo offers a powerful way to enhance concentration, confidence and self-discipline in a focused, respectful environment.

Why Take Kumdo Classes?

Kumdo classes are designed to challenge and inspire. Training includes spontaneous power generation, fluid motion, spinning techniques and structured sword forms. Students also improve posture, timing and concentration with every session.

While Kumdo has its roots in Japanese Kendo, it has evolved into a unique expression of Korean culture and martial arts. In fact, the modern term “Keomdo” is now broadly used to describe Korean sword-based disciplines. At Him-Do Tae Kwon Do Academy, we foster a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect through group classes that promote shared learning and personal development. Our students benefit from:

  • Improved focus and mental clarity through mindful training
  • Stronger balance and coordination developed through movement
  • Cultural appreciation of Korean martial arts history
  • Respectful sparring and forms practice with clear progression
  • A supportive environment that encourages growth at every level
